SCAN and INTERSTICIO are pleased to present ‘Where Water Rumbles | Metalloids’, a group show featuring works by: Cristina Mejías, Christian Lagata, Fuentesal&Arenillas and an installation ‘in response’ by Esther Gatón.

 

This exhibition initiates an exciting collaboration between SCAN and INTERSTICIO at a new facility on 469 Bethnal Green Rd. This new space offers larger and more flexible exhibition rooms close to transport – Bethnal Green tube – and conveniently between the Herald Street and Vyner Street gallery areas of East London. Our new spaces will be shared in rotation and the partnership aims to explore new curatorial synergies between the two projects as well as a more sustainable model for contemporary art projects in London.

 

‘Where Water Rumbles | Metalloids’ explores pathways of interpretation and intuition, adaptation and response. The project does not pursue a specific form, but rather plurality and drift. Objects (from daily life) and art works are assembled or arranged with the intention of provoking friction between them, of dissolving their initial meaning and triggering a new set of ideas without a preconceived binding principle.

A composition, a sketch or an idea can give rise to a dialogue that enriches the content and iniciates the next step.

 

Cristina Mejias [Jerez de la Frontera, 1986] MA Art, Creation & Research Complutense University of Madrid, BA Fine Arts European University of Madrid, and has also studied & worked in Dublin and Berlin. Recent exhibitions include (2020) The Host and the Ghost, Blueproject Foundation Barcelona, and (2019) Boca y hueso, Goma Gallery, Madrid.  

 

Christian Lagata [Jerez de la Frontera, 1986] MA Photography & Art Projects, Efti Madrid. Recently resident at Hangar, Lisboa (2019), recent exhibitions include (2019) Verde Chroma, Centro Párraga, Murcia and (2020) AMIDST, ACCA Studio, Madrid.

 

Fuentesal & Arenillas [Spain 1986-1989]BA in Fine arts from  University of Seville, they have lived in  Berlin and London. Recent Exhibitions and awards include, (2020) Cubierta brillante / Margen delgado curated by Juan Canela for Primera Fase Prize. Artistic production program, Madrid-DKV. (2019) XXX Circuitos, Madrid, CAAC Seville, La resistencia del ello / Azul como una naranja. Luis Adelantado Gallery, (2018), Gameshow / Playshow, Fundación Blueproject Barcelona.

 

Esther Gatón [1988 Valladolid] MFA, Fine Arts, Goldsmiths University of London. PhD Fine Arts, Complutense University of Madrid. MA & BA Investigation of Art, Complutense University of Madrid. Recent Shows include:(2019) El hecho alegre. Una mecánica popular de sentidos, Casa Encendida, Madrid and at Luis Adelantado Gallery, Valencia.

SCAN e INTERSTICIO se complacen en presentar ‘Donde retumba el agua| Metaloides’, una exposición colectiva con trabajos de Cristina Mejías, Christian Lagata, Fuentesal&Arenillas y una instalación ‘en reacción’ de Esther Gatón.

 

Esta exposición inicia una emocionante colaboración entre SCAN e INTERSTICIO en una nuevas instalaciones en 469 Bethnal Green Rd. Este nuevo espacio ofrece salas de exhibición más grandes y flexibles con fácil acceso (metro de Bethnal Green), y convenientemente localizada entre las zonas de galerías de  Herald y Vyner Street en el este de Londres. Nuestros nuevos espacios se compartirán en rotación y la asociación tiene como objetivo explorar nuevas sinergias curatoriales entre los dos proyectos, así como un modelo más sostenible para la organización de proyectos de arte contemporáneo en el contexto de Londres.

 

‘Donde retumba el agua| Metaloides’ explora vías de interpretación e intuición, adaptación y respuesta. El proyecto no persigue una forma específica, sino más bien la pluralidad y la deriva. Los objetos (de la vida cotidiana) y las obras de arte se ensamblan u organizan con la intención de provocar fricción entre ellas, de disolver su significado inicial y desencadenar un nuevo conjunto de ideas sin un principio vinculante preconcebido. Una composición, un boceto o una idea pueden dar lugar a un diálogo que enriquece su contenido e inicia el siguiente paso

 

Cristina Mejías [Jerez de la Frontera, 1986] Master en Arte, Creación e Investigación por la Universidad Complutense, Madrid, Grado en Bellas Artes por la Universidad Europea, Madrid, ha estudiado y trabajado en Dublín y Berlín. Exposiciones recientes incluyen (2020) The Host and the Ghost, Fundación Blueproject, Barcelona, Generación, La Casa encendida, Madrid y (2019) Boca y hueso, Galería Goma, Madrid.  

 

Fuentesal & Arenillas (España, 1986-1989) Grado en Bellas Artes por la Universidad de Sevilla, han vivido y trabajo en Londres y Berlín. Exposiciones recientes incluyen, (2020) Cubierta brillante / Margen delgado comisariada por Juan Canela para el premio Primera fase. Programa de producción artística Comunidad de Madrid-DKV.
