Lucía Pizzani (Caracas, 1975). Licenciada en Comunicación Social Mención Audiovisual de la Universidad Católica Andrés Bello, Certificate in Conservation Biology CERC por la Columbia University y Magister in Fine Arts del Chelsea College of Arts and Design de Londres.

 

Dentro de sus muestras individuales se pueden nombrar The Worshipper of the Image (Beers Contemporary. London, 2014), El Adorador de la Imagen (Sala Mendoza. Caracas, 2014), Mariposario (Oficina#1. Caracas, 2013),Vessel y Orchis (Fernando Zubillaga Galería, Centro de Arte Los Galpones. Caracas, 2009 y 2011, respectivamente), Retratos Ausentes-Absent Portraits (La Carniceria, Caracas y Signature Art Gallery Miami, 2007), y Vestigios (Sala Mendoza, -La librería-. Entre los reconocimientos a su trabajo se cuentan el Primer Premio en el XII Premio Eugenio Mendoza (2013), el Premio a la Artista Emergente otorgado por el AICA Capitulo Venezuela, (Asociaión Internacional de Críticos de Arte, Caracas, 2013), Premio al video “De la Desconocida del Sena y otras Ofelias” en el Festival Region 0 (New York University-KJCC. New York, 2013), el Segundo Premio en el IX Salón CANTV de Jóvenes Artistas FIA (Centro Cultural Corp Banca. Caracas, 2006) y el Premio por Mejor Documental con Monitor, en los Premios VIART (Universidad Católica Andrés Bello. Caracas,1998). 

 

Su obra está representada en la Colección Banco Mercantil, el Museum Of Latin American Art (MOLAA), la Essex Collection for Art from Latin America (ESCALA) y la Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros (CPPC), entre otras.

 

'Mi obra gira entorno a temas de género, el cuerpo y un permanente interés por la naturaleza. Esta mezcla también se alimenta de los diversos estudios que he realizado de Comunicación Audiovisual, Biología de la Conservación y Bellas Artes.  En los últimos años he venido desarrollando una propuesta visual que utiliza fotografía, performance, instalación, escultura y video. En estos diversos procesos retomo temas abordados por los surrealistas y el body art de los años setenta enlazándolo con la actualidad desde una práctica basada en la investigación. Busco historias y referencias literarias y artísticas en épocas significativas tanto en Europa como en América, entremezclando diversas estéticas, culturas y personajes.'

Her work has been recognized with awards such as the First Prize at the XII Eugenio Mendoza Award (2013), the Emerging Artist Award awarded by the Chapter Venezuela AICA (International Art Critics Asociaión, Caracas, 2013), Video Award for "From the stranger in the Seine and other Ofelias" in Region 0 Festival (New York University-KJCC. New York, 2013), the Second Prize in the IX CANTV FIA Young Artists Salon (Corp Banca Cultural centre. Caracas, 2006) and the Award for Best Documentary with Monitor, in VIART Awards (Catholic University Andres Bello. Caracas, 1998).

 'My work revolves around issues of gender, body, and a lifelong interest in nature. This combination of interests also feeds from the various studies I've done of Communication Studies, Conservation Biology and Fine Arts. In recent years I have been developing a visual approach that uses photography, performance, installation, sculpture and video. In these various processes I tackle issues addressed by the Surrealists and body art of the seventies linking it to today from a practice-based research. I seek stories and literary and artistic references in significant periods in both Europe and America, mixing various aesthetics, cultures and characters.'
